I look for home in the leaves on the trees
In the colors and the falling, and it's enough for me
Every day I'm walking 'til my legs give out
Chasing time, chasing visions and answers to what it's all about
What is it all about?
I carry this heart over my shoulder
Foolish and heavy it aches for what is known
The meaning changes as I get older
Thought I had to find it on my own
Oh this city of dreams never seems to sleep
I see a tired wild fire in every face I meet
Oh this city and I, well we're two of a kind
Just a stream of moving pictures and relentless neon signs
I carry this heart over my shoulder
Foolish and heavy it aches for what is known
The meaning changes as I get older
I thought I had to find it on my own
So take my hand and sing with me
You remember all the words and I'll remember to breathe
When the trees are bare and the tears are new
I think that I could find a little home in you
And that'll do

Think of Me
04:50
|
|||
And here we have my heart in pieces again
I unravel all the knots 'til they're all loose ends
But you don't have to worry, it's happened before
And don't the pieces look fine scattered all over the floor
When I had too much and disappeared, still somehow you saw me
Gave me water without questions and food to fill my body
I was just a hungry kid, starving for some action
and some two way streets
So I'll take my leave and I won't look back
Lay my bed of roses on the subway tracks
Maybe finally then I can get some peace
And I'll think of you the way you never think of me
Oh I think I need to come to terms cause it's gettin' kinda sad
And none of this is going how I saw it in my head
Swept off my feet and it's a long way down
Thoughts of you won't do me good when I hit the ground
So I'll take my leave and I won't look back
Lay my bed of roses on the subway tracks
Maybe finally then I can get some peace
And I'll think of you the way you never
Think of me, think of me, think of me...

A Different Kind
03:58
|
|||
Oh I think it's time I put a name to this feelin
Force myself awake from this steady dreaming
As we live into each others' eyes
I see I've got love of a different kind
Well it started small as all seeds do
An incriminating blush, an "I don't like you"
Then it shot to the height of your magic pines
The ones that you taught me and forced me to climb
Then that early morning, as I pretended to sleep
You were honest as ever, so sad and sweet
I heard the words like the softest cry
Slapped on a smile then as we watched the sunrise
Well they were right when they said the timing is wrong
Tomorrow could be singing a brand new song
But we'll talk about it all and we'll be alright
That's okay, babe, we just got love of a different kind

You See Me
03:43
|
|||
She hears a story in a word
A voice that rings from the center of the earth
When I speak, she understands
With a wisdom she holds in the veins on her hands
Sometimes I don't listen when you're right and I'm afraid
And pride comes from fear, mostly anyways
Do you get afraid too? With a heart so bare?
You can tell me, I'll hear you when your voice starts to tear
Oh you see me, and I see you
Oh you see me, and I see you
That's just what we do
That thing you got buzzin' inside your chest,
Secret sounds and stories that fly beside the rest
These are seeds these are gifts, they seek and they serve
Breathe into them the life they deserve
Oh I see you, and you see me
Oh I see you and you see me,
That's how it'll always be
Oh can we go down to the water
Where the beauty is bigger and troubles are smaller
Spirit like the sea pulls me in, pulls me through
You got mirrors and sweaters from Salvation Army too
Oh thank God you see me, and I see you
Oh you see me, and I see you
When this city's damn hard, and dreams feel far
I think of the many miles we've lived in the car
You've loved me whole since I came to be
My home is in the music that you sing with me

Tree Bark
04:20
|
|||
Oh I'm a piece of bark, split between two trees
And there ain't enough hours in the day to explain what that means
All these splintering passions, how do I reconcile?
I know I'm goin' down some day, but at least I'll go out in style
Oh lessons learned, the purest of intentions
Oh tears will burn, mining ground under my feet,
Failure never smelled so sweet to me
"Patience," I am told, a whole life yet ahead
Well if I'm so young tell why then do I feel so dead?
Every little breath awakening, caught in my own cunning trap
Every pathway I have strangled, I have torn up every nameless map
Oh lessons learned, the purest of intentions
Oh tears will burn, mining ground under my feet,
Failure never smelled so sweet to me
Oh I am a tree, branded, blistered but standing tall
I got years spread over miles in front me, and I don't mind at all
If my strings keep breaking, if my words keep comin' out wrong
Long as my heart keeps bursting, as long as my song is sung

Would You Be
04:10
|
|||
Oh would you be my dance partner?
Hold me close in kept poetry
The sun rises and sets in your marble eyes
Would mind fallin' in love with me?
No you don't like dancin' on your two left feet
You find it hard to catch the rhythm
Well as long as those long legs keep close to mine
Standing still can be just as sweet
Well we loved and we wandered like kids on the run,
Before the dream gave way to the sleep
So how shall I wake you with force or with fire?
Don't mind flyin' too close to the sun
Oh would you be my dance partner?
Hold me close in kept poetry
The sun rises and sets in your marble eyes
Would mind fallin' in love with me?
Well all the couples have split and the band's started packin'
And there's no song to dance to you say
Well I hear two hearts tryna beat in time
And I'm still standin' here askin'
Oh would you be my dance partner?
Hold me close in kept poetry
The sun rises and sets in your marble eyes
Would mind fallin' in love with me?

God and Video Games
05:27
|
|||
I see in you a mechanical man
Wide open skies and desert sands
And you've walked those sands and watched those skies
With restless feet and faraway eyes
Holey shoes, unholy jokes
The sound of your laugh through cigarette smoke
Garage attic kingdom, where no one ever knew
Making memories, making all the noise you wanted to
When you come home can I climb on your back again?
And I'll hold on so tight you can't breathe
I don't always know you or where you're livin'
But you're a hero and a mystery to me
Remember all the questions we used to pose?
'Bout God and video games--all the shit we didn't know
Remember I was scared with nothin' to say
Remember you told me that was okay?
That was okay
Well by now I've learned you'll make your own way
And it's a solitary song you play
But if your nights aren't warmed by thicker skin
All I'm askin's that you let me in
When you come home can I climb on your back again?
And I'll hold on so tightly you can't leave
I don't always know your or where you're livin'
But you're a hero and a mystery to me
Well you know I've heard we look the most alike
Same sense of humor and the same blood type
And I've been told I sing like you
That's probably because I try so hard to
